NOTD, Faux-nad MLS301 Look #11 & #12 of the Contest/Giveaway!

So this is the final post to wrap up the first monthly giveaway on NailBlog!

Today was the last scheduled day for voting, and I learned a lot in how to better improve these giveaways in the future. Such as scheduling the posts beforehand rather than posting them in real-time. Since it came so late, I decided to combine both #11 and #12 into one post. Commenting once on this post will automatically gain you two entries! I decided to also extend the deadline by a day, allowing “late” comments since I was late in my posting. Anyone that comments before TOMORROW at midnight will still get their entries on this!

LOOK #11

This is one that (while it has it’s problems) looks much, much cuter in person. Trust me!

First I used two coats of Revlon “Royal” as the base. I then stamped a fishnet pattern using a white polish and covered it all with one coat of Revlon “Whimsical”. I have done this in the past and once this combination is mattified it looks like incredible little glazed sweets! I ended up going a different way with this look than intended, so all of that ended up being detrimental if anything. I then used a cream color to paint “hippie flowers”.

Placing dots along the edge turns them into doily like cookies. After all this had dried I then took China Glaze “Leather Black” and stamped various sweets from the MLS301 plate.

What continues to be a challenge for my stamping is evident here. Blast that placement! I will persevere, however, and continue on the righteous path of Konading. Almost like a right-handed batter who swings too left, I need to compensate for always placing them too high.

LOOK #12

So Mr. NB really wanted to get in on the fun, and asked if he could help the contest. I thought it would be awesome if he would do the final look #12 using the MLS 301 plate.

This is his contribution.

Not exactly what I expected.

You can tell this a boy did this.

How?

There’s a horse that says “I <3 ice-cream” (who’s also been to prison as “evident by his prison teardrop eye tattoo”), a bird shooting lasers, super-power pigs, and a horse with “battle scars”. (Hey! We finally found a good use for the leopard rip!)

I wanted to get in on it too, so the “Kosher” pig is mine. I thought it was funny. A teenage pig raised to be Kosher, rebelling against it all. A swine without a cause. I stood alone in this humor.

I also felt the prison horse needed candy in his belly. He looked hungry and sad from having slug optical-tentacles for ears.

But, this does show a very crafty use for nail stamps! I’ve seen talk of using nail polish on jewelry and even on the bottom of shoes to add zazz.. *gasp* One could do the same with nail stamps! Add a design or stamp to anything…phone covers? Sunglasses? People’s faces as they’re sleeping? Just remember to seal your masterpiece afterwards.

NOTD, Faux-nad MLS301 Look #10 of the Contest/Giveaway!

So today I have something sweet and feathery for you. Or diabetic, literally for the birds and metaphorically for the cynics, depending on how you look at it.

q1 nail plate stamp

Love-birds with sweet-tooths and a pair of sweethearts on my ring finger!

q1 mls301 nail plate

Polishes used:

Kleancolor “Pastel Teal”, Kleancolor “Pastel Pink”, China Glaze “Leather Black”, Revlon “Valentine”, Seche Vite topcoat

I seem to be stuck using my drugstore polishes lately. Money has been tight so it’s put me in an thriftful mindset!

I first used three coats of “pastel teal” on my index, middle and pinkie. On my ring I used two coats of “pastel pink”, followed by painting a heart with the same teal. Since Kleancolor polishes dry a little slow for my liking (I’m all about speed!) I then topped it off these bases with a coat of Seche Vite fast dry topcoat. After drying, “Leather Black” was used along with the the MLS 301 plate to stamp swallows in various opposing positions. I then took “Valentine” and stamped them carrying little wrapped candies.

Initially I took great care in placing red polish in the center of the candy stamp, with white on the wrapper portion, to make them look more realistic and a bit more detailed. This worked easily and would probably look awesome against a dark color, however the white wrapper portion barely showed up against the teal. So I had to do it all over! But it’s a good idea for another time…

Hold the phone.
What’s that chicken doing here? Peeping on birds and trying to steal their candy?!

That’s no chicken. That’s a rooster, and his name is “techno-chicken”. He’s a ring I picked up from one of my absolute favorite ring shops and will be included in the next *scheduled* monthly giveaway!!

Stay tuned!

NOTD, Faux-nad MLS301 Look #9 of the Contest/Giveaway!

lightning bolt nails ZINGZING! ZAP! ZOLT! ZIP! Z… Zzz!

Another lightning bolt look. I love these bolts! I was so glad to find this plate. I had been looking for lightning images for such a long time prior to finding the Q1/mls301. I had a bit of trouble on this one specifically, but solely due to really rushing through it making the bolts and color lines not as clean as I would have otherwise liked.

Swallows nail stamp konad q1China Glaze “Liquid Leather” was used to stamp the swallow/sparrow images from the MLS301 nail plate. Base is OPI “Stranger Tides” and Hard Candy “Matte-ly in Love” was used to mattify the tips. Feathers are from the Konad m77 nail stamp.

What I love about this image is that one doesn’t have to go through the trouble of transferring the stamp onto another stamp to get it’s mirror image. (A method used by a few veteran stampers when they want to get a stamp’s mirror image. A method I haven’t tried- it sounds exhausting ;) ) This plate already has two separate sparrows, facing each other (or away from one another), already ready to go!

So. you. can. ROCK. ON.Pickle likes to rock

NOTD, Faux-nad MLS301 Look #7 of the Contest/Giveaway!

Ok. Before we go any further, I want it to be known that I consider this manicure to be a fail. I want to also disclose that I may have unintentionally set it up to fail before I even began, as this is the image I’m least fond of on the whole plate.

This image is the “claw-ripped” leopard from the MLS301 Plate. I imagine it may look cute on nails long enough to feature it in it’s entirety, but mine are nowhere near that long. While most plates seem to offer images too short, MLS301 is the exact opposite! The length of the ripped-leopard stamp is a full inch long.

As you can see in the above pictures, I used it horizontally on my ring finger in an attempt to find some way to make this design work. I’m not sure how to judge it…I simply just don’t like this one very much.

I find myself thinking that if I was someone who didn’t know what it was, I might think it was an attempt at some sort of wooden flame, pepperoni look. WOODEN OCTOPI APPENDAGES.

Any suggestions or ideas are welcome!

Loreal “Deeply Red”, Sally Hansen “Golden-I”, OPI “Into The Night” on tips, and China Glaze “White on White” To stamp the stars from the MLS301 Nail Plate.

Aside from the USA’s colors, can you tell the inspiration for this one?

The Avengers! I recently saw the Avengers and I LOVED IT. I didn’t love the beginning and the cynic in me was throwing a party pointing out all the things I didn’t like..until about half-way through when I was entirely won over.

There were so many amazing scenes that would have redeemed just about anything for me. I remarked to Mr. NB that they could have featured Tom Hanks and Julia Roberts in a 45 minute musical scene and I wouldn’t even have held it against them, all because of one specific scene involving the Hulk. They gave his character such justice this time!! Which is long overdue. I know I’m not the only one who has hated every hulk movie they’ve made in the past 15 years.

BUT back to the mani, which is clearly very Captain America. To be honest I’ve never been super fond of his character, nor Superman. Ive always been much more drawn to the darker, tortured personalities such as Batman. I didn’t even care for the most recent Captain America movie but I was surprised to find myself LOVING him in this one. I can’t say enough how much this movie surpassed my expectations.

So… Go Captain America, Go!

**These are obviously WW colors. However at the end of the day, I preferred the gold detailing over silver. That’s kind of what inspiration is- having an idea and then running with it wherever it may lead**

NOTD, Faux-nad MLS301 Look #5 of the Contest/Giveaway!

Sorry to have slightly neglected NB the past two days, I’ve been working on my entry to Rainbow Honey’s My Little Pony Contest which begins on the 16th. I don’t want to post too much too soon, but I will keep you updated with details and full pictures as that date draws nearer. I’m ridiculously excited to see what the participants came up with, especially as I have new found respect for nail-arters.

Sneak peak I posted on my twitter:

AND ONTO MORE CANDY STAMPS

The stars of this one are clearly those little cartoon characters.
Glitter is two coats of Spoiled “Jewelry Heist”

NOTD, Faux-nad MLS301 Look #4 of the Contest/Giveaway!

konad candy nail stamp
China Glaze “Liquid Leather” as base, Sally Hansen “Lacey Lilac” (on index, pinky) and “Mint Sorbet” (on middle and ring) to stamp the Kawaii-Candy Portion of the MLS301 plate, and Nicole OPI “Love Your Life” on ring finger. While I love getting crazy and attempting innovation with stamps, sometimes you just gatta keep it as intended.

BUT see all those melted candies on my ring finger? This post also serves as a cautionary tale about the care needed when using a topcoat over a stamped image. Normally, I am super careful in not using any pressure to avoid streaking and morphing the stamp, however I totally lost my mind since I was using another polish rather than a topcoat. It’s totally the same concept, but my brain must not have processed that. I swiped away time after time without a care in the world…only to notice when taking these pictures.
